Trade Show 101, Part I: Designing Your Canopy Tent, Directors Chairs & Much More!

Trade shows are one of the best ways for brands to get their name out there to potential customers and keep a leg-up on the competition. They have an incredible influence on consumer intent. These important events allow companies to test new products, get feedback on new ideas and strategies, train potential consumers on how their product works, and get their brand in front of both new and existing consumers. It is a great marketing strategy because a significant portion of your target audience is one place. The key is to present a highly customized display that resonates with your audience.

Preparation begins long before the show starts with the design of your trade show booth. This is part 1 of a 2 part series on everything you need to know about setting up and customizing your trade show display.

Elements of a Dynamite Trade Show Booth

There are two ways that visitors will connect with your booth. The first is an eye-catching design that they will notice from the other end of the aisle. The second is how your booth is set up. In other words, is it easy to navigate and interact with?

One of the main hurdles with trade shows is that you have rows upon rows of exhibitors set up. Many of these are your competitors. It is said that you have just 3 seconds on average to grab the attention of attendees at a trades show before they decide to move on to another display. How do you stand out in a sea of vendors? These are the elements of a stunning trade show display.

  • Custom Graphics - Utilize the highest quality graphics, including logos and branding to make sure your exhibit is eye-catching and easily recognizable. E-Z UP offers award-winning, in-house printing services, which have won the SGIA Golden Image Award for 7 years in a row. [1]
    • Lighting - The lighting in the building may not be enough. Additional lighting can enhance the display's appeal and add depth and dimension to the space.
    • Interactivity - Attendees like displays they can interact with. Whether it be a video, product demo, contest, etc. find a way to include a way for visitors to interact with your booth and therefore your product and brand.
    • Promotional branded freebies - Let's face it, visitors will flock to your booth for a free promotional item. Make sure it is a quality item that has your brand's name and logo on it.
    • Custom canopy tent - Gives your display a cohesive look while making it easily recognizable. If you are attending an outdoor trade show, it also offers protection from the sun, wind, or rain.
    • Flowing design - Make sure your booth design flows in a logical manner that allows visitors to move through the exhibit and take-away the key message.
    • Provide seating - Ultimately you are here to acquire new customers. Make sure your booth is set up to do so by providing adequate seating to conduct business.

The ability to conduct business at your trade show booth is one of the most important aspects of acquiring new leads that turn into future customers.

How to Design Your Trade Show Booth to Conduct Business

Imagine with me for a moment that you are a visitor to a booth of a product that you have a sincere interest in using for your company. You would like to talk with a representative further about the product and how to utilize it in your business. However, there isn't anywhere to sit and have a conversation, nor is there a designated area free of passersby. The other issue is that all of the business's representatives seem very tied up. You have dozens of more booths to peruse before the end of the day. In the interest of time, you take a pamphlet and keep moving.

A couple of rows over, you encounter a competitor of the previous booth you were at. Not knowing much about either product, you decide that this brand is probably just as good as the other so you approach. Fortunately, you notice a designated seating area and a representative ready to assist.

The first booth lost you as a customer because they made two crucial errors. The first was not having a designated seating area to help visitors looking to invest in their product. The second was not having a representative available to help those with the intent of making a purchase.

Have Personnel Ready to Close a Deal

Many visitors to your booth have an interest in your product and may purchase down the line but aren't ready to close a deal today. These people tend to have questions about the product and then they move on to the next booth. However, you will have those who are ready to make a purchase today. You do not want to lose these consumers by having all of your representatives tied up talking with those who aren't ready to commit.

Make sure you have at least one person free at all times who is scouting out the consumers who are ready to commit. If ready-to-commit consumers can't get help within a few seconds you will lose them and there is an excellent chance that they will find a competitor who can help them.

Comfortable Seating Area with Directors Chairs

Your trade show booth should contain a comfortable sitting area for you to conduct business with consumers. First, make sure to place the sitting area in a semi-private area of the booth so that visitors do not feel like they are sitting awkwardly out in the open or in the middle of a crowd. You need to have a table with at least 2 directors chairs. One for the representative and one or two for customers to sit in.

Types of Directors Chairs

Directors chairs are upscale, professional, comfortable, and easy to transport, store, and set-up. This makes them a great option to implement in your trade show booth design. There are many different designs of directors chairs. Choose from different heights and widths to accommodate different size tables. Make sure that the height of your director's chairs matches the height of your table. You do not want consumers sitting awkwardly too low or too high.

Elevate Your Look with Custom Directors Chairs

One of the best features of directors chairs is your ability to customize. You want your chairs to match your branding and logo design. Choose from virtually any color and custom design any way you like. This helps to increase the attractiveness of your booth, convey a sense of professionalism, and create brand loyalty among your target audience.

Customize Your Trade Show Booth from Start to Finish

A custom canopy tent, tablecloths, banners, pop-up displays, tables, and literature racks should all be a part of your stunning booth design. The best part is that you can customize all of these elements of your trade show booth to make sure your booth stands out from the competition and is the talk of the show.
